The Secret of Red Gate Farm by Carolyn Keene a.k.a Mildred Wirt Benson - first printing original 25-chapter text from 1931, nearly 100 years old! Illustrated so beautifully by Russell H. Tandy. This book - as can be seen in the photos - has some wear/aging or foxing to the dust jacket, some edgewear and some closed tears but is intact, protected in Mylar. Click on the various images to bring up larger images. The book has a bit of wear - some edgewear/rubbing and aging, some fraying to edges and spine ends, fading to spine. Faded penciled price inside on blank endpaper. Has the glossy frontispiece illustration plus 2 more illustrations throughout the book--one of the internal illustrations is missing unfortunately, however if you have the book itself you can upgrade this and have the dust jacket to make a nice first match! Finding a first printing of Red Gate Farm from 1931 is not an easy task with the original dust jacket, so this is a gem just waiting for your collection! Fun trivia - as documented in the NYPL's Stratemeyer Syndicate archives, Benson declined to write the book after this one due to a pay cut during the depression - the next 3 volumes would go on to be written by a man, Walter Karig. Benson was back again with book #11 for a time.
